Due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, the highly anticipated release date of Deadpool 3 has hit a snag. Originally scheduled to be released on May 3, 2024, the movie will no longer be able to make its planned release.
Deadpool 3’s release date
Deadline reports that even if the strike ends in the coming weeks, there won’t be enough time to reunite the cast and crew or begin production on the partially completed film.
Deadpool 3, directed by Shawn Levy (The Adam Project and Free Guy) and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool and Deadpool 2), is set to make history as the first R-rated film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Shawn Levy expressed uncertainty about the film’s release date, saying, “I wish I knew. I don’t even know if we officially have [a release date]. But I do know that we can’t release on May 3. Certainly the actors’ strike and the long pause in production really put that release date at risk. We shot half the movie. I edited half of the movie and we’re really looking forward to getting back to work and getting this movie out next year.”
While the plot is still under wraps, it has been confirmed that the movie will center on the rivalry between Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and promises plenty of action-packed clashes between the two iconic heroes.
Ryan Reynolds played a key role in convincing Hugh Jackman to come out of Wolverine retirement, persuading him to reprise the character after previously declaring he was done with the role. Jennifer Garner is also set to return as Elektra, a character she hasn’t played since 2005.
